50,000-Year-Old Baby Mammoth Unearthed in Siberia
Scientists in Siberia have discovered the best-preserved mammoth carcass in the world, nicknamed 'Yana'. The 50,000-year-old female baby mammoth was found in the thawing permafrost of the Yakutia region. Researchers are excited about the exceptional preservation of the carcass, including the head and trunk, which is unusual for such discoveries. The mammoth is estimated to have been around one year old when it perished. The discovery was made in the Batagaika crater, a huge depression caused by climate change. Experts believe Yana is the most well-preserved mammoth discovered to date. Six others have been found before her, all in Russia and Canada.
