Canada and India are in the midst of a diplomatic crisis over the assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada. Canada has accused India of supporting criminal activity against Canadians on Canadian soil, and expelled India's top diplomat over the matter. India, in turn, has rejected the allegations and expelled Canada's acting high commissioner. The row has long-standing roots in the issue of Sikh separatism, and has been escalating for over a year. Despite this, trade and investment ties between the two countries have not been impacted, and both sides are urged to manage their actions to avoid a full-blown economic fallout. The biggest sufferers, however, will be the Indian diaspora in Canada.
