Hate Crimes and Tragic Incidents: A Double Fatal Stabbing and a Fatal Fire in Australia
Two men are dead after a brawl at a birthday party in Melbourne's outer suburbs. Meanwhile, in Melbourne's west, a popular burlesque performer was killed in a fire in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity. The victim, Katie Tangey, was house-sitting for her brother when two people targeted the wrong address, pouring accelerant inside the house and setting it on fire. Tangey's death is being treated as a homicide. In Sydney's eastern suburbs, cars were vandalized with antisemitic graffiti, two were set alight, and a home was splashed with paint overnight. New South Wales police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
