Pennsylvania's Governor Defends Groundhog Phil in Weather Prediction Dispute
Pennsylvania's Governor, Josh Shapiro, is defending Punxsutawney Phil, the world-famous groundhog who predicts the start of spring, against animal rights organization PETA's suggestion to replace him with a vegan cake. Shapiro took to Twitter, saying 'Come and take it' after PETA proposed the idea in a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club's president. The dispute has sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing with Shapiro and others criticizing PETA. Groundhog Day, celebrated annually on February 2nd, dates back to pre-Christian holidays and has been taking place in Pennsylvania for 139 years. However, scientists have determined that only 35% of Phil's predictions were correct.
