This issue has already impacted over 3,600 open drug-related cases, with records of destroyed evidence being kept indefinitely. The problem has existed since the 1990s, and officials are now working to properly handle evidence and create space for property that is still important. All narcotic evidence obtained before 2015 will be cleared from the shelves and destroyed.
