Rubio's First Trip as Secretary of State to Panama Amidst Trump's Vow to Take Back the Canal
Newly sworn-in Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit Panama for his first international trip as the nation's top diplomat. His trip comes after repeated vows by President Donald Trump to take back the Panama Canal, which was built by the US in the early 1900s and relinquished to Panama in 1999. Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino has already rejected Trump's claims. Rubio is also expected to address the issue of mass migration in Central American countries like Guatemala and El Salvador.
