Trump's DOJ Purge: Over a Dozen Officials Fired, Jan. 6 Cases Reviewed
Donald Trump's Justice Department is purging over a dozen officials who worked on Jack Smith's cases against the former president. Acting Attorney General James McHenry fired the officials, citing their inability to faithfully implement the president's agenda. The purge comes as the DOJ launches a review of charging decisions in hundreds of Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot cases. Trump's team collected evidence to obtain a conviction in the election conduct case, but both investigations were dropped after Trump's 2024 election win.
Meanwhile, the chief of the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section resigned after being reassigned to a different position. The resignation follows numerous career Justice Department officials being reassigned last week.
