Tulip Siddiq's Anti-Corruption Role Under Scrutiny Amid Family Embezzlement Claims
Tulip Siddiq, the UK Treasury economic secretary, has been urged to step aside from the anti-corruption aspects of her role following claims that her family embezzled up to £3.9bn from infrastructure spending in Bangladesh. Siddiq has been named in an investigation by Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission, and has referred herself to the Prime Minister's standards adviser. The investigation relates to allegations made by a senior political opponent of Siddiq's aunt, the country's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Siddiq has denied any wrongdoing.
